We are committed to providing parents and children with the tools and information they need to use our products and services safely. Here are a few of the ways we do that.
The GSM Association, the global trade association for mobile operators has formed the Mobile Alliance Against Child Sexual Abuse Content to obstruct the use of the mobile environment by individuals or organisations wishing to consume or profit from child sexual abuse content. O2 through its parent company Telefónica is a member of this Alliance. One of the Alliance commitments is to implement technical mechanisms to prevent access to websites that host child sexual abuse content. O2 has introduced the technical capability on its mobile internet and mobile broadband services to do this.
To give parents peace of mind when buying a mobile phone for their child, we’ve put together a helpful checklist of things to ask. Learn how to register as an authorised contact on your child’s pre-pay mobile phone account and how to apply our parental controls service which blocks access to the Internet on the mobile phone.
With Block It, O2 customers can block unwanted text, picture and video messages from other mobile phone numbers. The service can prevent bullying by blocking messages sent from any Irish mobile network, and will work on any mobile phone. Block It is extremely easy to use. To initially set up the service, simply text BLOCK IT START to 50216.
O2 customers can access a wide range of content across voice, text and browsing services. O2 have put the tools in place to make sure that content which is classified as over 18 is not accessible by minors.
