GSMA Mobile Alliance Against Child Sexual Abuse
The GSM Association, the global trade association for mobile operators, has launched the Mobile Alliance against Child Sexual Abuse Content to obstruct the use of the mobile environment by individuals or organisations wishing to consume or profit from child sexual abuse content.
Telefónica O2 Ireland through its parent company, Telefónica, has joined this Alliance. This group includes all major global mobile operators and one of its key commitments is the provision of a blocking facility to prevent access to illegal child pornography websites. By joining with the GSMA in this initiative, O2 hopes to assist in combating the spread of illegal child pornography websites across the internet maintaining a safer mobile environment for all of our customers.
Mobile phones play a big part in most young people's lives. They have lots of different uses – from swapping messages with friends, to surfing the web, listening to music and taking pictures – so it's easy to see why young people love them. Mobiles are also great for parents, because they enable you to stay in close contact with your children when they are out and about.
At O2 we understand the lengths you go to in order to protect your children. We also appreciate that mobiles, for all their many uses, can bring with them some concerns -especially now that many handsets have internet access.
We can't watch over our children every moment of every day. But we're working on ways to help protect them. It's all part of our big plan to make mobiles a worry-free zone for parents, teachers and anyone else who looks after children.
We have created this child protection section on our website to help you. Come here anytime for practical advice and useful updates on all aspects of mobile phones and child protection. If there's anything more you think we can do to help, please let us know at protectyourchildren@o2.com
