Setting up your email on your BlackBerry®

When powering on your smartphone for the first time and having entered your SIM card’s PIN code, it will present you with a Welcome! message suggesting for you to roll the track ball to highlight and click/press it in to select any of the options*.

By highlighting & selecting Run Setup Wizard you will be guided through some initial preferences with your new smartphone and you will be given a handy introduction to using the features. The Setup Wizard will then look to help you with setting up your e-mail by presenting you with the following options:

I want to create or add an email address

Select this option and select Next if you would like to create a new email address for your smartphone or to associate your smartphone with one or more of any existing email addresses you may have.

The Setup Wizard will then guide you through setting up your e-mail and in no time you will be able to begin sending and receiving e-mail. If you need further information, click on the following link to download the Email Setup Guide.

I want to use a work email account with a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server

Select this option and select Next if your company is looking for you to setup your BlackBerry® smartphone with the above internal service. Or check with your IT department/contractor to see if this option is available.

Select this option if you would like to setup your email at another stage* and continue with the Setup Wizard to learn more about your smartphone's features, shortcuts and additional ways to personalise it.

Typing tips

Action Tip
To capitalize a letter Hold the letter key until the capitalized letter appears or press the Up key and the letter key.
To type the alternate character on a key Hold the Alt key and the character key.
To type a symbol Press the Function key. Type the letter that appears below the symbol.
To type an accented or special character Hold the letter key and roll the trackball to the left or right. Release the letter key when the accented or special character appears. For example, to type ü, hold U and roll the trackball to the left until ü appears.
To turn on NUM lock Press the Alt key and the Up key.
To turn off NUM lock Press the Alt key.

Home screen tips

Action Tip
To open the application list press the Symbol key.
To return to the Home screen Press End.
To lock the keyboard, on the Home screen or in the application list Click Keyboard Lock.
To unlock the keyboard Press the # key and the Answer key.
To lock the device, set a password. On the Home screen or in the application list Click Lock.
To unlock the device, type your password Press the Back key.
To turn on standby mode hold the Mute key.

Phone tips

Action Tip
To make a call from the Home screen Type the phone number. Press the Answer key.
To end a call Press the End key.
To turn on or turn off mute during a call Press the Mute key.
To turn on or turn off the speakerphone during a call Press the # key.
To adjust the volume during a call press the Volume keys.
To add an extension to a phone number Press the Alt key and the X key. Type the extension number.

Message tips

To move to the top of a message list Press T.
To move to the bottom of a message list Press B.
To move to the next date in a message list Press N.
To reply to a message Press R.

To highlight adjacent messages Hold the Up key and roll the trackball.

Organizer tips

To move to the next day, week, or month in the calendar Press the Space key.

To convert a measurement in the calculator, type a number Press the Symbol key. Click To Metric or From Metric. Click a conversion type.
To search for a contact in a list of contacts type the contact name or initials separated by a space.

To zoom in to a picture Press I.
