What is Stepped Rating?

With Stepped Rating the rate per minute on local, national and mobile calls decreases the more minutes of calls that you make. This is a standard feature on business plans and there is no up front charge.

Call Answering Service

What is Call Answering and how do I set it up?

You may miss a call when out of your premises or maybe you can't get to the phone, but with Call Answering there is no need to worry. Call Answering will greet the caller trying to reach you and take their message when you can't get to the phone.

You don't pay any call charges for listening to a messages on your phone. You can also listen to your messages from another touch-tone phones, including your mobile and your normal call charges will apply. There is a monthly recurring charge of €1.20 (ex. VAT) for Call Answering.

You can even get text messages. If somebody sends you a text message and you don't have a text enabled phone you can still get the message. Call Answering will convert the text message to speech. This can then be collected from your Call Answering mailbox.

You will be alerted to any message you have by a broken dial tone and once you've picked it up the tone will return to normal. Calls are transferred to voice mail if you're on another call and have Call Answering.

Call Answering Multi-Mailbox

With Call Answering Mailbox you can have 1, 2 3 or 4 mailboxes. As many as four people in your business can have their own mailbox - each with a personal greeting and private password. Calls are transferred to a mailbox when your phone is busy or if there is no reply.

This mailbox is divided up into 4; the main mailbox and three extension mailboxes. Callers can leave a message in the main mailbox or choose up to three menu options to leave a private message for an individual.

All 4 mailboxes can be password protected.

Cost of Call Answering Multi-Mailbox

  • Monthly Charge: €1.80 (ex. VAT).

Listening to messages is free of charge from the main phone. Checking messages from another phone is charged at normal rates.

Once you order Call Answering, the service will be available within 48 hours for a normal phone line. If ordered on an ISDN / High Speed line, this service will be available within 7 days.

User Guide and set-up instructions for Call Answering

To Set Up:

  • Lift your receiver and key 171
  • If O2 Call Answering has not yet been enabled on your line, you will be asked to enter your mailbox number.
  • If these services have been enabled on your line, you will be asked to enter your temporary password.
  • When asked, enter the following temporary password 1234
  • You will be requested to choose your own private password (this cannot start with 0), once entered, press #
  • Follow the spoken prompts to record your business name / own name and welcome greeting.
  • Message waiting indicator (this tells you if you have a new message in your mailbox).
  • Lift your receiver.
  • A broken dial tone means you have new messages.
  • To listen to your messages, key in your password.

As you set up each extension, the system will give you a password for every one. Please write down the password and give it to the extension mailbox user.

Resetting your extension mailbox password:

  • This is useful for when you've forgotten your password or simply wish to ensure security
  • Follow the first four steps of the earlier section "To set up extra mailboxes"
  • Enter the number of the extra mailbox you wish to reset
  • Press 7 and follow the spoken prompts - unfortunately any message still in the mailbox will now be lost
  • Press 2 to recreate the extra mailbox and follow the spoken prompts
  • Set the new password and then record your own greeting

Change number of rings

  • Key in *62*
  • Enter the number of rings i.e. 20
  • Press #
  • This will make your phone ring 20 times before Answer is activated.

Call Waiting

What is Call Waiting?

O2 Call Waiting is a service that alerts you when someone is trying to contact you as you are on a call. A soft beep alerts you when a second caller is trying to get in contact.

  • Call Waiting can be connected within 48 hours of order being placed
  • You can switch back and forth: at the touch of a button
  • Ignore the incoming call: and allow the caller to leave a message in the call answering mailbox
  • Call Answering will play your recorded greeting in the usual way and their caller can leave a message

If you use dialup Internet, you should divert your incoming calls to call answering when you are online. Broadband users can speak on the phone and surf the Internet at the same time.

How much does is cost?

  • Nothing, it's free!

  • Lift your receiver
  • Press *43#

How to use it

Whenever you are on the phone, a soft 'beep' will alert you of an incoming call.

  • To ignore the new call, do nothing.
  • To take the new call, press R2 (first call goes on hold).
  • Press R2 to switch between calls.
  • To finish current call and talk to the other caller, press R1.
  • If you don't have an R1 and R2 on your phone, press your Release button, then the number 2 (first caller goes on hold).
  • Press number 1 and (second caller goes on hold). On some phones, the release button is called Flash.

To turn it off

  • Lift your receiver
  • Press #43#

Note: Regular users of a Dial-up Internet connection are advised to switch off Call Waiting before going online.

3 Way Calling

What is 3 Way Calling?

3 Way Calling allows you to talk to two people at the same time. Normal call charges apply for each call you make.

How to use 3 Way Calling

  • Make a call to someone (person A)
  • When you wish to speak to another person (person B), just press the R button on your phone
  • This puts person A on hold and you'll hear a dial tone
  • Dial the number for person B
  • When you wish to go back to person A, press R 2
  • Now simply press R 2 every time you want to switch between person A and person B
  • To speak to both of them at the same time, simply press R 3
  • To end whichever call you are on, press R 1

Note: Not all phones have the capability to operate 3 Way Calling.

Call Forwarding

What is Call Forwarding and how do I set it up?

Call Forwarding allows you to forward calls to any phone in Ireland or to your mobile.

With Call Forwarding you can divert your calls to a phone in a location where you are going to be. It's automatic, so callers don't know you're away from your business premises.

Cost

Set up charge of 25.14c (ex. VAT) each time you set up Call Forwarding on your phone. Forwarded calls are charged at standard rates. E.g., if you forward a landline call to a mobile, the caller pays the standard rate for calling your landline number and you pay the standard rate for the call from your landline to their mobile.

  • Enter the number to which you want to forward your calls (include the area code if it's different to your own)

Caller Display

What is Caller Display?

Caller Display lets you see the number of the person calling before you answer. You will need a caller display enabled telephone. These are available in department stores and electrical outlets.

No set up needed. Once activated, Caller Display operates automatically.

Turning it On and/or Off

  • If you do not wish your number to be displayed when calling another person, simply dial 141 before the number you are calling.
  • If your number is ex-directory or unlisted and you wish your number to be displayed when making a call, dial 142 before the number you are calling.
  • Order Caller Line Restriction to permanently block your number being displayed.

Is there any charge for this service?

No! It is free.

Note: Your phone number will always be presented when sending text messages, even if your phone number is restricted. Caller Display does not display ex-directory or unlisted numbers.

What is Caller Line Restriction?

You don't have to display your number to everyone you call. Enabling Caller Line Restriction on your phone line blocks your number being displayed on other people's Caller Display units.

If you are an ex-directory customer, Caller Line Restriction is automatically enabled on your line.*

Once you've order Caller Line Restriction, it will be available within 1-2 working days.

What is Alarm Call?

Alarm Call allows you to programme your phone so it will ring at a specific time.

How to set up Alarm Call

  • Lift receiver and press *55*
  • Key in the time you wish to receive your call using the 24-hour clock (i.e. 7:15am = 0715)
  • Press # and hang up
  • To confirm your instructions press *#55* time of call (in the 24-hour clock)#

How to cancel Reminder Call

  • Lift the receiver and dial #55*
  • Key in the time of the call you wish to cancel (in the 24-hour clock)

Fixed Line Text messaging with O2

The O2 landline text messaging service or SMS (short message service) allows you to send and receive text messages from your business phone.*

How much does it cost?

  • Text to Irish Landline 6.62c (ex. VAT)
  • Text to Irish Mobile 8.27c (ex. VAT)

You can send and receive text messages (up to a maximum of 160 characters) between mobiles and text enabled phones.

*Landline SMS is only available on fixed and mobile networks in the Republic of Ireland. To receive an SMS on your landline phone you must have an SMS enabled landline phone or have an O2 Call Answering mailbox, where the SMS will be delivered to your mailbox via text to speech.

How to get started

To start text messaging from your phone you will need a text-enabled phone, these can be purchased from any electrical retail outlet.

If you already have a text enabled phone you must first have O2 caller display activated on your line. There is no charge for this service. Now you can send a text message to any number and O2 text messaging service will deliver your text.

Sending a text message

1. Open menu
2. Choose text message, then press OK.
3. Choose write message, then press OK.
4. Write message (for information on entering letters and characters see your phones user manual operating instructions).
5. Open menu again.
6. Choose send text, then press OK.
7. Enter the recipient's phone number and open MENU.
8. Choose send.

Receiving a text message

1. Open menu.
2. Choose Text Message, then press OK.
3. Choose Incoming, then press OK.
4. On the screen choose your text message. This will then display the message.

NB: New text messages appear before older messages. There is no charge to receive and read text messages.

What do I need to be able to send and receive text messages from a landline?
You need an SMS enabled phone, and O2 caller display activated on your phone line in order to use the O2 landline text messaging service.

Is text messaging available to everyone?
O2 text messaging and O2 caller display may not be available to some customers. Landline SMS is only available on fixed and mobile networks in the Republic of Ireland. To receive a landline SMS you must have an SMS enabled phone or have an O2 mailbox, where the SMS will be delivered to you mailbox via text to speech.

Can I send text messages to an international phone number?
You can't currently send or receive international text messages from your phone.

How do I receive text messages if I don't have an SMS enabled phone?
You must have O2 Call Answering activated on your phone in order to receive an O2 text to speech message. O2 text to speech messaging service will transfer the text message sent to your number into a text to speech message in your O2 Call Answering mailbox.

Will my phone number be shown if I send text messages?
Even if your phone number is restricted, it will always be presented when sending text messages.
