Using your Modem

Instructions for PC users

E220/E270/E170 USB Modem

Step 1. Insert the 3G SIM card, that came with your O2 Broadband, into the modem.

Step 2. Power on your laptop or PC.

Step 3. Insert the larger end of the short USB cable (included in your pack) into the USB port of your laptop or PC. A green light should flash on the modem which indicates the modem has powered on.

 

Step 4. Double click the icon of the application which has installed automatically on your desktop.

You will be asked for your SIM PIN code (SIM PIN1). This is included in your 3G SIM card letter.

Enter the SIM PIN code and select OK. When the PIN code is accepted you can now use the Mobile Connect desktop Manager.


Compass™ 888 Modem

Step 1. Insert the 3G SIM card, that came with your O2 Broadband, into the modem

Step 2. Power on your laptop or PC.

Step 3. Plug the Compass 888 into your computer. The install wizard will automatically begin the first time you insert the modem into a new computer. See below:

E1752 modem

Getting to know your E1752 modem

  1. Micro SD Card Slot
    Holds a Micro SD memory card (not supplied with the modem)
  2. SIM Card Slot
    Holds the SIM Card
  3. Lanyard Hole
    Ties the cap and the USB stick together so that they will not be easily lost. Note : The lanyard is an optional accessory not supplied with the modem.
  4. USB Connector
    Connects to a USB port on your PC or Laptop.
  5. LED Indicator
    Indicates the status of the modem.

Preparing your E1752 modem for use

Remove the back cover from the modem. Insert the SIM Card (and Micro SD memory card) into the card slots. Ensure that the cards are inserted correctly.

Note : The Micro SD memory card is an optional accessory and is not included with the modem. Do not remove the SIM card or the Micro SD memory card when the modem is being used. Removing the cards during use may damage the cards aswell as the modem.

Connecting your E1752 modem to a laptop or PC

  1. Power on your laptop or PC.
  2. Plug your modem into a USB Port on your laptop or PC.
  3. Once connected, the installation wizard automatically starts. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the O2 Broadband Connection Manager. When connected the Shortcut Icon will appear on your desktop.
  4. If the installation wizard does not start automatically, click on My Computer (Computer on Windows Vista) and then double click on the O2 Broadband CD Drive to auto run.
  5. After the installation has completed, the Connection Manager software will open and prompt you for your PIN. Enter PIN 1 provided on the PIN card.
  6. After the PIN is entered a data signal will appear on the bottom left hand corner of the Connection Manager. Then click on Connect.

Compass™ 888 Modem

Step 1. Insert the 3G SIM card, that came with your O2 Broadband, into the modem

Step 2. Plug the Compass 888 into yourcomputer. The TRU-Install feature supports an automatic software installation process.

Step 3. The TRU-Install Window appears. Click the Sierra Wireless.mpkg file and run the Watcher software installation wizard.

Before you connect:

  • Have the "Broadband Data Add on" added to your account. It costs €15.06 inc VAT a month which gives you a 1GB data usage allowance a month. Broadband Add ons
  • You will need an HSDPA enabled handset, please check your phone manual or see the compatible phones listed below.
  • Check that you have a 3G SIM card in the back of your phone, it will have '3G' printed on it.

Nokia phones

Ensure your computer has one of the following operating systems:

  • Windows Vista x32 and x64 editions
  • Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
  • Windows XP (Professional or Home Edition) (Service Pack 2)
  • Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4)

Installing the software

1. Insert the software CD supplied with your phone into the CD drive on your PC or laptop.

2. The software will start automatically. You will need to review & agree to the terms and conditions and warranty when prompted, and then select "install software".

3. Select "Nokia PC Suite" and "Install now Nokia PC Suite". Follow the instructions as prompted and wait for the software installation to complete. Review & accept the terms and conditions when they appear. Once the installation is complete, you can exit the Nokia software or continue and connect your phone.

Connecting your phone

4. In the Nokia PC Suite window select "Click here to connect to a mobile" then select next.

5. In the list of connection types, select cable connection and click next.

6. Using the supplied USB cable, connect your Nokia phone to the cable and then connect the cable to a USB port on your PC or laptop.

7. Your PC should automatically recognize your handset. Select "Accept" to any prompts from Windows.

8. Select – PC suite on your phone

9. Click finish

10. You are now ready to surf using the Connect icon in the PC Suite window.


Sony Ericsson phones

To set up the Modem open the Sony Ericsson PC Suite and as mentioned make sure the handset is connected in Phone Mode. this can be selected when you first connect the handset.

Before you use the USB cable you will need one of the following operating systems.

  • Windows 2000
  • Windows XP (pro and home)
  • Windows Vista (32 bit and 64 bit versions of: Ultimate, Enterprise, Business, Home Premium, Home Basic).

Before using your phone as a modem you must install the Sony Ericsson PC Suite software CD provided in the box on your computer.

To use phone mode

1. Computer: Start PC suite from start/programs/sony Ericsson/PC Suite, or double clicking on the icon on your desktop.

2. Connect the USB cable to the phone and the computer.

3. Phone:Select Phone mode> Phone Ready to be used with computer

If you are having trouble installing your O2 Broadband Modem, you can download the software directly here.

It is recommended that when installing the O2 Broadband software on your laptop or PC, you first remove any previous installations of the software. Consult your PC/laptop help & support section, for details on how to install/uninstall software.

Download the appropriate software for your system below then simply double-click the executable file in the ZIP file and follow the on-screen instructions. Once you have installed the software, you should be able to connect your O2 Broadband USB modem and connect to the internet
