Customer notice re: hoax text message
We have been made aware of a text message being sent to some customers purporting to be from O2. The text message reads:
"O2 are now keeping O2 to O2 texts free forever. So tell your friends. Send this to 20 friends and receive a €50 top up 4 spreading the word. The credit will be sent to you within 2 minutes of your last text. Thanks from O2".
This text message has not been sent by O2 and therefore is not legitimate. We would encourage all customers to disregard the message if they receive it and to refrain from forwarding it on to other O2 numbers.
Recognising genuine text messages sent from O2
Sometimes you may not be sure if a text message you have received is genuine, especially if the message is offering you free credit. Genuine texts from O2 always come from the number "50202" and are free of charge to receive from within the Republic of Ireland. Sometimes you may be required to text back a keyword to this number to show your interest in the offer or to take part in promotions or competitions which are only offered to O2 customers. These texts back to 50202 are also free of charge from within the Republic of Ireland.
Note: Information requested by customers from O2 Customer Care directly can sometimes be sent via a special text message service - and will appear in their inbox as being from the number "02", receiving these informational messages is free of charge - however you cannot reply to "02" and attempting to do so will only produce the "sending failed" error.

IAA and O2 launch Ireland's first Autism Helpline on inaugural World Autism Awareness Day
Helpline, 1890 818 518, will be open from 7pm to 10pm, 5 days a week
Irish Autism Action and O2 Ireland have today announced the launch of a new helpline for parents of children with autism. The establishment of the helpline is a direct response to calls from parents for a support service that would put them in touch with other families affected by the condition with a view to sharing experiences and advice. It is estimated that the rate of autism has grown in this country from 1 in 10,000 in 1988 to 1 in 166 in 2008.
Autism is on the increase globally and in response to this the UN has declared today the inaugural World Autism Awareness Day. World Autism Awareness Day aims to raise the level of understanding and awareness about this disorder and has called on all countries to take necessary steps to raise awareness of autism. In Ireland, Irish Autism Action, supported by O2 Ireland, has extended World Autism Awareness Day into Autism Awareness Month. Throughout the month of April, Autism Action will run a national advertising and public awareness campaign and will also distribute information to every GP surgery in the country.
Autism Awareness Month will also see the first anniversary of the Solas Centre, the first autism diagnosis centre in the country. In the past year the Solas Centre has seen and diagnosed 216 children and has helped develop appropriate treatment plans for all of these children. The Solas Centre was set up largely through funding from O2 Ireland.
