Desktop email

If you’re a regular user of your o2.ie email you may find it easier to have your emails delivered directly into your PC inbox. This is possible using a system called POP3 - (Post Office Protocol Version 3). Though it sounds technical it’s quite easy to set up. Simply select the Email program you use from the list below and follow the instructions.

Outlook Express

  • Open Microsoft Outlook Express.
  • From the Tools menu select Account.
  • Select the Email Tab.
  • Click the Add button and choose Email.
  • The internet connection wizard appears. Fill in the display name field with the name you want to appear in your email messages.
  • Click on Next and you should see a screen requiring your O2.ie email address.
  • Replace the screen name with your O2.ie screen name.
  • Fill in your POP3 server:pop3.o2.ie
    SMTP server: smtp.o2.ie.

Broadband users please note: Your incoming mail server can be configured as above (pop3.o2.ie) but your outgoing mail server has to reflect that of your broadband service provider (such as Eircom Broadband or ESAT BT). You should contact your broadband service provider for more information on configuring outgoing email for your selected client.

  • Specify your O2.ie screen name and password so that outlook can get your email. Click remember password so that outlook does not ask you for it every time.
  • Click Finish to close this screen.
  • Click the OK button, close all open dialog boxes and save the settings.

Netscape Messenger

  • Open Netscape Messenger.
  • From the Menu, select Edit, then Preferences.
  • Select Identity under the email and Newsgroups section.
  • In the Outgoing Email(SMTP) server text box enter smtp.o2.ie

Broadband users please note: Your incoming mail server can be configured as above (pop3.o2.ie) but your outgoing mail server has to reflect that of your broadband service provider (such as Eircom Broadband or ESAT BT). You should contact your broadband service provider for more information on configuring outgoing email for your selected client.

  • In the Incoming Email(POP3) server box enter pop3.o2.ie
  • In the POP3 Username text box, enter your username.
  • Click OK.
  • From the Menu bar, select Window and then Netscape Messenger.
  • Enter your password and click OK.
  • Select File.
  • Select Get New Messages.

Eudora light/pro

  • Open Eudora Pro.
  • From the Tools menu, choose options.
  • In the POP Account text box, type your email address.
  • In the real name text box, type your name.
  • In the return Address text box, type your email address.
  • In the SMTP server box type smtp.o2.ie POP3 server settings= pop3.o2.ie

Pegasus

  • Open Pegasus email.
  • Select Tools menu then options.
  • Under Categories, select Network Configuration.
  • Under Properties(for receiving mail) enter :pop3.o2.ie
  • Your username is the log-in for your O2.ie account.
  • Your password is the password for your O2.ie account.
  • Under properties(for sending mail) enter:SMTP Host:smtp.o2.ie
